02 🌲 The Vibe

The Roots is the quiet, green end of the Ipoh camping scene — a small eco resort on Jalan Chemor where Google's top review topic is literally "camping escape". Families pitch BYO tents on the lawn or take the raised bamboo chalets; school camps and company outings book the group dorms. Around it all: a swimming pool, a stream view, orchard walks between the rambutan trees, and the kind of tip-top cleanliness and warm hospitality reviewers keep naming. Not a wild jungle camp — a calm family resort with real camping on the grounds.

03 🚗 Getting There

The resort sits at Batu 10 1/2 on Jalan Chemor (Route 1), heading north from Ipoh city towards Tanjung Rambutan — roughly 15-20 minutes from the city centre. The access road is sealed and the site is easy to find (plus code M5G7+H2, 31250 Ipoh). Reviewers call it easy access; the location score is modest because it's out of the tourist strip, which is exactly what a camping escape wants. Parking is on site.

🚗 ~15-20 min north of Ipoh city📍 M5G7+H2, 31250 Ipoh🅿 Parking on site🛣 Sealed Jalan Chemor access

It's a drive-in destination rather than a walkable one — most visitors arrive by car, and reviewers note the nearby eateries around the resort for meals. Check in is 3:00 pm, check out 12:00 pm.

04 🛏️ Staying at The Roots

Three ways to stay: BYO tent camping on the green grounds, raised bamboo chalets with beds, or group dorms that school camps and outings book. The resort publishes no public rates — Google Maps shows "Contact this property for rates and availability", so call 011-6573 9468 to confirm pricing. Whatever you book, you get the pool, the orchard walks and the peaceful stream-side setting.

  • Camping (BYO tent) - Pitch on the green grounds with full facility access — pool, toilets, eateries around; rate on enquiry.
  • Bamboo chalet - Raised bamboo-and-brick chalets with beds — the comfortable middle option; rate on enquiry.
  • Group dorm (8-11 pax) - Dorms for school camps and company outings — confirm the bed count when booking.
⛺ Booking & policies — no online rates; call 011-6573 9468 or message via rootsecoresort.com. Check-in 3:00 pm, check-out 12:00 pm. If you book the group dorm, confirm the bed count in writing: one group of 11 found 9 beds and a single toilet, and an extra inside room cost more.

05 🛠 Facilities

🏊 Pool🏞 Stream view🏕 Camping ground🛖 Bamboo chalets🛏 Group dorms🌳 Orchards & rambutan🍽 Eateries nearby🌙 Quiet & green🅿 Parking

🏊 Pool & stream— the swimming pool is the heart of the resort; a rocky stream runs past below — best enjoyed from a camping chair while eating outside rather than a swim — reviewers warn the river bed is full of stones with no proper access steps.

🛖 Stay options— camping ground, raised bamboo chalets and group dorms; school camping and department outings are regular bookings, and the open green space doubles as an event area.

🌳 Grounds & food— orchards with rambutan trees and a little nature walk; there are places to eat around the resort, and the setting stays very green and quiet.

★★★★★

"I will definitely recommend this campsite to all, especially family with young children. I had spent a 2D1N camping with my friend's family. As parents, we were amazed by the tip-top cleanliness, thoughtful consideration, and the warm hospitality from all the crew and manageress. As children, they enjoyed the swimming pool, natural walk in the little orchards, and went on an exciting spree to explore in this resort. A good camping escape and memory indeed."

★★★☆☆

"We booked dorm for 11 people, we're shocked to get 9 beds with 2 mattress and just 1 toilet for 11 of us. We had to paid extra to open another inside room (this room inside our dorm) of 3 beds and 1 toilet. Another 8 people dorm was double ducked beds that closed to ceiling fans so we had to put 2 mattresses on floor to be safe. The toilet was also only one for 8 of us. As the dorm higher from the ground ( the stairs is very dangerous for children, it is too high), there is stair to go to toilet. The management already knew that there were a lot of customers will be coming but they only cleaned the pool at 5pm after we arrived.…"

Google's rating spread (4.9★ / 14 reviews, checked 21 Aug 2026) is about as clean as it gets: 13 five-star reviews and a single three-star. The praise clusters around the cleanliness, the warm staff, the pool and the orchard setting — parents call it a proper camping escape. The one detailed caveat (the three-star) is about the group dorm: 9 beds for 11 people and one toilet, plus a river that's rocky and not swimmable. Rates are not published anywhere, so budget is on enquiry.

08 🏕️ The Camp Tip

Our take on gear & planning
  • Pool day means a proper towel. Families here spend the day between the pool and the lawn — a Naturehike quick dry towel dries fast between swims.
  • Eat outside — that's the whole point. Reviewers rave about meals with the stream view; spread a Mobi Garden picnic mat on the lawn and eat with the greenery.
  • School-camp and family groups: bring the dome. The grounds are open and green for camping — a Vidalido dome tent gives a group a proper base.
  • Dorm booked? Pack a spare air bed. One group of 11 found 9 beds in their dorm — a Blackdog air bed is an easy backup for overflow.
