Castra Sahom Valley

01 Quick Facts
02 🌲 The Vibe
Castra is the quiet, well-kept end of the Sahom valley scene — a riverside camping ground whose big headline isn't rafting but a natural hot spring pool a short walk from a cold, deep, crystal-clear river.
Reviewers call it secluded, safe and relaxing: the caretaker patrols day and night, a bring-out-own-rubbish policy keeps the place spotless, and the toilets earn repeated 'resort level' praise. The cafe doubles as the social hub (plug points rentable at RM10/night), the campfire pavilion gathers everyone after dark, and families keep coming back.
03 🚗 Getting There
Castra sits in the Sahom valley between Gopeng and Kampar (plus code 96JJ+JW, Lot 117197 Kampung Sungai Gapes). From the North-South Expressway (E1), take the Gopeng or Kampar exit and follow the signs toward Sahom — roughly 20-30 minutes from either town, or about 2 hours 15 minutes from KL. Reviews describe the access as fairly easy with a proper free carpark on site; the camp itself is tucked away from the main road, so the last stretch is quiet village roads.
Reviewers advise respecting the bring-out-own-rubbish policy — the caretaker keeps the place spotless and that reputation is built on it. Some tent pitches are gravelled while others are bare soil, so expect a bit of mud after rain.
04 🛏️ Staying at Castra
The core stay is BYO tent camping on riverside pitches at around RM30/adult/day (per a 2023 camper review — no official rate sheet is published). There are also riverfront cabins for those who want a bed, and an RV electric hookup on the amenities list. This is family-oriented camping: super clean toilets, running water, a cafe with plug points you can rent for RM10/night (bring a long extension), and a campfire pavilion.

06 💬 What Campers Are Saying
"Secluded campsite away from main road. Complete facilities. Super clean and comfortable toilets. No plug point provided but you may bring long extension and rent plug point from cafe to your camp area for RM10 per night. Our campground is Yaki campground near the river however you cannot access the river directly from the tent. River is rocky and the stream is quite strong. We really enjoyed the river and it was the highlight of our camping trip this time around. We spent our last night at the cafe with very nice coffee and matcha latte. Please take note on the “bring out your own waste” policy. Since there is no garbage bin provided,…"
"A Hidden Gem for Nature Lovers 🌿 If you're looking for a unique and peaceful escape, Casta Sahom Valley offers one of the best and rare experiences in nature. We stayed in a beautifully simple hut built from buluh (bamboo) and atap bertam (palm leaves), yet it was surprisingly comfortable. The room came with a fan, mattress, lighting, and complete welcome amenities, making the stay feel cozy and well-prepared. What I loved most was the veranda, perfect for relaxing, enjoying your meal, and soaking in the view of the lush greenery and flowing waterfall.…"
"One of few great riverside campsite I've been to. Secure and private, caretaker takes great pride and care of this place. He regularly check the area, day and night and place kept very clean by the "bring out own rubbish" policy. Toilet area was especially well thought out, clean and functions well. Plug points available at common area, also function as cafe chill out area. Take note that some tent areas are gravelled while others are bare soil so could get a bit messy on wet weather."
"Yes. This is the good place to enjoy the nature, very cold at night time (21 deg celcius). Good internet coverage. Price is very fair for the facility and environment. Coffee is nice too! ☕️ Staffs is very friendly with us by guiding and accepting our very “last minute” booking .I don’t understand why some reviewers say they are rude. U guys should visit this place. 🙏🏻❤️ 2nd time coming here.. campsite 2 also very good. River nice also.. top service from owner.."
"Too amazing to put into words—only the heart can capture the feeling."
Google's rating spread (4.6★ / 53 reviews, checked 21 Aug 2026) is overwhelmingly positive, and the review summary says it plainly: the big themes are the river, the hot spring and the clean toilets. The caveats are gentle — one 4★ review wishes the hot spring pool were bigger, and another notes some tent pitches are bare soil that gets messy in wet weather. Safety, cleanliness and a friendly, present caretaker come up again and again.

08 🏕️ The Camp Tip
- River day means your phone gets wet — plan for it. The cold deep river is the main event and the hot spring pool is a splash away, so a Naturehike phone waterproof bag keeps photos, keys and cash dry through both.
- The river entry is rocky — wading shoes first. Reviewers rave about the clear water, but the crossings are stones; Naturehike wading shoes make the river and the gravelled pitches comfortable.
- The best seats are by the campfire pavilion. The cafe and pavilion are the social heart of the camp, and the ground is gravel or bare soil — a Blackdog camping chair gives you a proper seat for the fire.
- Pitches are gravel or bare soil — keep your gear off it. Wet weather turns bare-soil spots messy (a real camper caveat on the listing); a Mobi Garden picnic mat keeps your sitting area dry and clean.
