Ecotree Camp @ Semungkis

01 Quick Facts
02 🌲 The Vibe
Ecotree is the quiet end of the Semungkis river scene — a semi-wild camping ground inside the forest reserve where the lots are forest floor, the river runs cold and clean, and the point of coming is to switch off.
Reviewers keep circling the same words: semi-wild, surrounded by forest, not crowded, barely any mosquitoes — and the one thing nobody misses: no cell coverage, which one bikepacker called "the point of getting away from all that nonsense". Families come for the river and the clean toilets with bidet; bikepackers roll in from Sungai Tekala; everyone brings their own everything.
03 🚗 Getting There
Ecotree sits inside the Semungkis forest reserve in Hulu Langat (plus code 5RJF+8M, 43100 Hulu Langat, Selangor), roughly an hour from central KL depending on traffic. The last stretch is a dirt access road — reviewers call it off-road and bumpy, with one noting their Perodua EMAS 7 handled it fine, so take it slow in a sedan. The camp is also bikepackable: one Local Guide rode in from Sungai Tekala via Semenyih. Parking is on site.
Reviewers treat the bumpy drive as part of the adventure, but it is genuinely rough in places — a raised ride helps. If you're new to the route, arrive before dark; the road is unlit and the camp is deep in the forest.
04 🛏️ Staying at Ecotree
Two ways to stay: BYO tent on semi-wild forest lots, or rooftop-tent (RTT) spots with a plug point (7pm-7am). This is a semi-wild site — the ground is leaf litter and forest floor, amenities are basic but clean, and the river is the main attraction. Bring your own gear, food and water containers; pack out everything you bring in.
- BYO tent lot - Semi-wild forest pitch on leaf litter — full DIY camping, pack in and pack out.
- RTT spot with plug point - Rooftop-tent spots with electricity 7pm-7am, per visitor updates.
- River access - Cold, clean river for wading and cooling off — not too crowded, per reviewers.
05 🛠 Facilities
🌊 River— a cold, clean river runs through the forest; reviewers rate it the highlight, good for wading and cooling off, and not too crowded. Pack a cooler box and let the current keep drinks cold.
🚻 Toilets— clean toilets with bidet (one visitor update calls them 5★); this is semi-wild, so there's no resort block, but the basics are well kept.
🔌 Power & wifi— plug points at the RTT spots run 7pm-7am and free Starlink wifi is available on site. Phone signal is minimal, which reviewers say is part of the point.
06 💬 What Campers Are Saying
"The Journey & Location The drive in is a bit off-road and bumpy, but it completely adds to the adventure! Our emas7 handled it without any problems. Once you arrive, you are immediately greeted by lush, beautiful nature and a serene environment. The Campsite & Service We had a fantastic lot right by the river. The staff here are incredibly attentive and helpful—they even took the time to clear our lot by sweeping away dead leaves before we set up. Since there were fewer than 5 campers during our stay, it was wonderfully quiet, peaceful, and felt very safe.…"
"Had a great 3 days 2 nights at Ecotree Camp @ Semungkis. This was my first visit. My friends brought me here since it was their second time. The campsite is amazing, surrounded by trees and running water. Surprisingly, there were very few mosquitoes and flies. I would describe it as a semi wild camping experience. Do not expect much from the facilities. The campsite is powered by a generator. There is no mobile signal or internet access during the day. From 7pm to 7am, you can connect to their Starlink WiFi. It was actually nice to take a break from the phone and be fully present with nature. The weather was really good.…"
"Semi wild camping experience. Kids & family friendly campsite with complete amenities. WiFi, Lights & power supply available from 7pm - 7am. Your kids may participate in the jungle survival class (If the slots available). The only setback of its only certain mobiles network coverage available (Digi / Celcom) made it difficult to communicate in case of emergency. Please prepare cash to buy from uncle ice cream 😁"
"The deepest campsite along the Sungai Semungkis. River is calm and clean during our visit, and some obstacle course for kids. Facilities with limited time starlink wifi, toilet and bidet, no shower."
"Bikepacked here from sungai Tekala, Semenyih. Not much mosquito surprisingly. Semi wild surrounded by forest. No cell coverage but that's the point to get away from all that nonsense"
Google's rating spread (4.6★ / 42 reviews, checked 21 Aug 2026) is one of the cleaner ones in Hulu Langat: the highs are the semi-wild forest setting, the cold clean river and the clean toilets with bidet; the recurring caveats are the rough access road and the minimal phone signal — which most reviewers frame as features, not bugs. Mosquito complaints are notably rare.

08 🏕️ The Camp Tip
- The river is the whole trip — keep your phone out of it. The Semungkis stream runs cold and clear, and a wade ends with a splash sooner than you think — a Naturehike phone waterproof bag keeps the camera safe while the kids are in the water.
- Pack for the riverbed, not the beach. Cold water over rocky shallows — Naturehike wading shoes make the crossings and the splash zone a lot more comfortable.
- Semi-wild means you bring the tent. The lots are forest floor under secondary jungle — a quick-pitch Vidalido dome tent goes up on leaf litter in minutes and packs small for the bumpy drive in.
- Power stops at 7am. Plug points at the RTT spots run 7pm-7am, then it's forest-dark — a Blackdog camping light carries the evening past the cutoff.
