01 Quick Facts
02 🌲 The Vibe
The Hideout is the campsite people gush about in reviews - and the rating spread shows it: 160 five-star reviews out of 173. It's a family-run eco-campsite tucked into Kampung Jahang, with the Kampar River running right along the edge of the site and limestone hills closing in around it.
This is not a glamping resort and it doesn't pretend to be. You bring your own tent, pitch on a riverside lot, and spend your day swimming in the river, lazing under the gazebo, or heading out with the hosts for white-water rafting and waterfall abseiling. The warm hospitality of the owners - Mr Gi, Cindy and the crew - comes up again and again in reviews, alongside two very specific highlights: the exceptionally clean toilets, and Cindy's homemade coffee & durian ice cream.
It suits families, school groups, corporate retreats and first-time campers who want nature plus genuine hospitality. Go in knowing it's a managed eco-camp, not a wild jungle spot - midweek is noticeably quieter, and B-lots closest to the river are the ones to ask for.
03 🚗 Getting There
From Ipoh, head south toward Gopeng on the North-South Expressway and take the Gopeng exit - roughly 21 km / 25-35 minutes. From Gopeng town it's about 5 km into Kampung Jahang, following the road down beside the river. The site is at coordinates 4.446004, 101.1980167.
Several reviewers note the mobile signal drops in the kampung - download the offline map or screenshot directions before you leave Ipoh. The owner recommends calling ahead for directions and availability.
04 🛏️ Staying at The Hideout
You stay in your own tent on one of two camping lots - Lot A and Lot B - or bring a hammock. The riverside B-lots are the favourites: closest to the water and the gazebo, and reviewers say you fall asleep to the sound of the river. A-lots are quieter but sit further back.
- BYO everything - tent, sleeping kit and gear are on you; the campsite provides the ground, facilities and the river.
- Book direct on WhatsApp - there is no website and no online booking engine; availability, rates and directions all run through +60 12-608 6462.
- Weekend lots go fast - call ahead, and ask specifically for a B-lot if you want riverside.
05 🛠 Facilities
🚿 Toilets & showers - the single most-praised feature in reviews. Clean, separate male/female blocks with hot-ish showers - rare at budget campsites and consistently called out.
🍽 Common areas - a covered dining hall, riverside gazebo, shared cooking area with washing sinks and BBQ/fire pits. Comfortable for big groups, and the space doubles as a gathering point in the evenings.
🌊 The river - the Kampar runs right beside the camp. Swimming, tubing and kayaking from the site, and the hosts run white-water rafting, waterfall abseiling and caving trips (Gua Tempurung) from here.
🍦 The ice cream - yes, really. Cindy's homemade coffee, durian and roselle ice cream is a guest ritual. Try it after a day on the river.
06 💬 What Campers Are Saying
"Hidden in the lush folds of Gopeng’s rainforest, The Hideout isn’t just a stay, it’s an unlearning experience. Wooden cabins peek out between towering trees, rivers hum in the background, and nature reclaims your attention faster than any notification ever could. It’s the kind of place where you trade traffic noise for cicadas, and deadlines for hammocks. Days here roll by gently, with jungle trekking, river tubing, and waterfall dips reminding you that showers don’t always need tiles. Nights arrive draped in mist and campfire glow, where stories stretch longer than phone battery life. The air smells of rain, wood, and freedom,…"
"We came here with a school group and we were so grateful for the warmth and hospitality shown by Cindy, Mr Gi, and the team at The Hideout. They gave us a fantastic reception and orientation. The catering was excellent for our group of young people from the UK. We slept on hammocks here and there are also tent camping spaces. There are a couple of entry points to the river here, including an epic slide. There are separate male/female toilets and showers. We went white water rafting with the team here. Their briefing was excellent, clear, and concise.…"
"We had a blast on our trip for cave exploration and water rafting. The guide is literally like a walking National Geography Channel, always dropping us with detailed explainations of the Gua Tempurung, which makes the whole tour 10x more interesting. For Water Rafting, it is 100/10 experience. I drank the river water too much already because we fall down from the raft multiple times. But luckily the guide is professional enough to save and guide us back. What a great experience"
"If u r looking for weekend adventure, do consider the Hideout. Their waterfall abseiling is highly recommended for adrenalin rush, overcoming fear n highten determination. They also have campsite n I stayed at B lot which is closer to the river n gazebo. It can be a bit noisy at night due to some idiots karaokeing in the opposite site! If u want peace n quiet, can consider A lot. Kudos to G, Cindy and Mat Bagan 💪🏼"
"The hideout is a very homely cozy and comfortable excellently positioned resort beside sungai Kampar. The staff are very kind and helpful - always sharing their experience. Clean toilets , well maintained lawn and facility. Dinning hall is spic and span. Don’t forget to try their home made ice cream - too good - coffee and durian ice cream was delicious. Mr and mrs G is the best host. Thank you hideout"
Google's rating spread (checked 20 Aug 2026: 5★ 160 · 4★ 9 · 3★ 3 · 2★ 1 · 1★ 0) is about as positive as a campsite gets. The recurring highs are the clean facilities, warm host hospitality, the rafting / abseiling experience and the peaceful riverside setting. The recurring lows are gentle: busy weekends, a more-managed-than-wild feel for solitude seekers, and rates that vary by package - always confirm on WhatsApp.

08 🏕️ The Camp Tip
- The river is the point - the Kampar runs straight past the camp and the riverbed is pebbly underfoot, so a pair of Naturehike wading shoes is the single most useful thing you'll pack, and if you're joining the rafting run, a phone waterproof pouch keeps your photos alive.
- Don't skip the canteen - the camp makes its own durian ice cream, and the riverside pavilion is the best seat after a swim; an Ise Mount quick-dry towel dries you off between the river and dessert.
- Jungle nights are properly dark - there's no power on site and mosquitoes join the party after sunset: the Blackdog × Lovork 7-in-1 module (light, fan, speaker and mozzie repeller in one) is exactly the kind of thing that saves a family night here.
- Rain happens, even in dry season - a dry bag keeps dry clothes dry through a tropical downpour, and doubles as a laundry bag for the wet stuff.
