02 🌲 The Vibe

Kampung-by-the-sea simplicity - casuarinas, waves and wooden huts, not a resort.

Owned and run with genuine warmth; Pak Long and Aunty Lina treat campers like guests.

Weekday mornings feel like a private island; weekends turn into a lively family beach party.

Healing is the word reviewers keep using - sea breeze, BBQ smoke and waves all night.

04 🛏️ Staying at Sri Mekar Campsite

A laid-back kampung-by-the-sea campsite on a quiet Johor beach - pitch your tent steps from the water, fire up a BBQ under the trees and fall asleep to the sound of waves. On weekdays you might have the whole beach to yourself.

  • Kampung beach life - Tents go up right behind the beach with a shallow, kid-safe shoreline; wooden pondok huts and gazebos add shelter and the sea breeze keeps things cool day and night.
  • Simple, well-kept facilities - Clean toilets and showers with strong water pressure, a tidy surau, plug points and sink areas - reviewers repeatedly call the toilets surprisingly good for a beach camp.
  • Owner-run hospitality - Pak Long (and Aunty Lina) run the place personally - helping campers set up, answering WhatsApp fast, and keeping the grounds clean even on packed weekends.
Good to know

Book ahead for weekends - the site fills up and water pressure drops at full house. WhatsApp Aunty Lina at +60 13-274 6504 or call 013-610 1052. Bring: DEET repellent (sandflies are fierce), extra drinking water as backup, sting cream for jellyfish, and cash. Weekday visits = quieter site, fewer bugs and full water pressure. Pick a spot near the beach, not the end lot by the fence.

05 🛠 Facilities

Beachfront pitchesClean toiletsSurauPlug pointsBBQ spotsPondok hutsTreehouseFree parking

🏖️ Beachfront pitches — Tent spots line the beach - RM40 beachfront, RM30 back row. The water is shallow and safe for kids, though jellyfish have been reported, so keep an eye on swimmers.

🚿 Clean toilets & showers — Multiple reviewers call the toilets genuinely clean - impressive for a beach camp. Showers have strong water pressure on normal days, but it dips when the site is full house on weekends.

🕌 Surau & prayer space — A clean, cool musolla on site with separate male and female prayer areas - a plus for Muslim campers that few beach camps get right.

⚡ Plug points & kitchen sinks — Electric plug points are available per spot (RM10 extra) and there are kitchen/sink facilities for washing up - enough for lights, fans and a kettle.

🛖 Pondok, gazebo & treehouse — Wooden huts, gazebos and even a treehouse dot the grounds; pondok rental starts at RM30 and campers love the authentic kampung look.

"Runaway Picnic for a day in Punggai, Desaru. Lots of campsite here. Sri Mekar is one of them. Nice place, beautiful, Glamping Tent with facilities and so on. Had a best family picnic here. Thanks to the friendly owner. Love this place and might return again for a day or two here. We got no problem during our picnic. Enjoyable with our own BBQ. Take a smaller gazebo just enough for us. Best."

Heavily positive - 39 of 59 reviews are 5-star and 83% are 4★ or above - but with a notable cluster of five 1-star reviews and zero 2-stars, so opinions split between 'total healing' and beach-bugs/water complaints.
